PRESENTATION
From research on sugar cane and the historical relations between Portugal and Brazil, Adonis discovered that Madeira Island, fertile land for cultivation, played a prominent role, starting one of the main economic cycles in Brazil , as it was from here that the first sugarcane propagules left towards the other island, Itamaracá. During this phase, the artist developed the work "Itamaracá, Tamanaquá, Itanhandu" which is currently on display in Brazil. Another module in the series is presented here, focusing on the Sugarcane Flower. In this sense, a fact instigated it: sugarcane flowering is not seen, as it is prevented because it compromises productivity, just as ideas, people, projects, cycles are inhibited from emerging because they impact a certain system. The proposal presented is an installation of a sugar cane flower, highlighting the importance of what is not seen. The triangular shapes of sugarcane flowers represent unity, the 4 elements, earth, water, fire and air, without which there is no nature. The flower represents vitality, the beginning of the cycle, a metaphor for vital energy. The installation takes place as part of the Aqui_Acolá festival, during a period on the Island when the flower is praised. There is a historical relationship between sugar cane and the Parish of Ponta do Sol, which is currently flourishing with cultural incentives such as the Aqui_Acolá Festival.
