PRESENTATION

“Not even in art there would be creativity, if we could not face artistic doing as work, as an intentional, productive and necessary doing that expands in us the ability to live.”
Fayga Ostrower

The multitopy project that we have now made as exhibited, contemplated in the Sesc RJ Pulsar Culture Notice/24 brings together 8 contemporary artists with different origins and formations that, from the sharing of creative processes started in the middle of the pandemic - period in which cultural exchanges They were suspended forcing all types of material production to adapt to digital formats in distance experiences - it was able to develop an affinity built in diversity, in the exercise of observation, from the dialogues between the plastic and expressive elements, confirming the possibility of establishing affective and work bonds, regardless of distance.
In art, form is the outer aspect of real, imaginary or represented objects, thus born the idea of sharing a show, sharing the group's experiences. As there is no image construction without words, multitopies, which gives title to the exhibition, and has no record in the dictionaries, translated this artistic doing and fostered the challenge so that we could develop the project.
The exhibition show is the result of a series of gathered symbolic elements that have the function of promoting with the public the multiplicity of a free and open cultural production to all ages and genres, providing subjective experiences through reflection on creative processes and a meeting between the work, the artist and the viewer, where art happens. Its realization in the Sesc Exhibition Gallery of Nova Friburgo enables the decentralization, inclusion and diversification, fundamental in the citizen formation.
As an accessibility measure, we provide in each work a QRCode with access to the SoundCloud platform where the public can listen to the artist himself by discussing his respective work.
It was up to the design and artist Adonis Galvão to create this graphic piece guide to the exhibition. He was inspired by the maps and fiber optic cables that cross oceans and bring people closer to the speed of light. His imaginary lines crossed the Atlantic to trace the driving wires that united the artists. As a result, each visitor may have in hand the design of the expography elaborated by curator Ana Carla Soler.
Galvão mapped multitopies so that the show's visitor has the possibility of finding each labor point and, consequently, every story behind this artistic doing.
Finally, we thank everyone who contributed to make possible the realization of the Multitopias Exhibition, the Sesc technical team, employees, artists Adonis, Beatriz, Bia, Esther, Fábio, Let, Paloma and Stella for believing and trusting in The necessary creative work that expands in us the ability to live and the public, which ennobles us with the presence.

MULTITOPIAS

Parallels and meridians represent imaginary lines that cut the globe and facilitate cartographic functions. Countries, states and cities are invented lines that delimit a territory and fulfill the mission of providing human beings the illusion of domain. Some try to create walls in the vain attempt to separate sides, materializing the divisory lines. There are many efforts to have the fictional sense of belonging to a place.
In vocabulary, the congruence of Greek terms is used to, in “topography” (“topos” and “spelling”), to forge an extension of land and to contemplate the description of their peculiarities, whether natural and/or artificial. In “Toponymy” (“Topos” and “Onoma”) is the possibility of naming and distinguishing a concrete geographical space. In mathematics, the word “topology” (“topos” and “logia”) is used to describe the study that investigates whether the points of a set are distributed and connected-or not-among themselves.
In the Multotopias exhibition, they are gathered at Sesc Nova Friburgo artists who propose to reflect on the place that the human being occupies on Earth, seeking through the landscape to bring a possibility of planet where there are no imaginary lines that serve only to limit. They form a commonplace together, where human beings understand that their bodies, nature and the environment are not separate elements, but a single living organism.
It is indissoluble to think of the relationship between human beings and nature without questioning the colonizing action of European countries on US continents, either by the arrival via Caravelas, or by the population immigration that mitigated local cultures. It was in this process that the fiction arose that planet Earth has a servile function, extracting its natural resources for monetization. It is from this reflection that the works of Adonis Galvão, Stella Mariz and Beatriz Basso depart. The three artists live in the constant flow between Brazil, Portugal and Italy and it is for the waters of the Atlantic that sail their research, reflecting the human consequences in the landscape. When it comes to figuration, we find the endeavor of humanity, ruin, and when we come across Basso's abstraction, colors portray the flow of nature sovereignty.
The works of Bia Serranoni, Fábio Naranno and Paloma Carvalho create cartographies of the building, landscapes built by human hands. Buildings, pilasters and maps are permeated by light and color. They integrate as one thing, and when they coexist, they are no longer what they were before. In the composition of the works, the functions originating from their elements lose action, are only structures bathed by light and allow us to admire the colors. Was it a color a metaphor of the eyes, interpreting light as a prism, to translate the real?
In this fantastic universe, the present offers a kind of premonition, with clear evidence of what can happen when we follow, myopic, the consequences of predatory actions against nature. Artist Esther Bonder creates on her landscape screens that ignore the expected green of leaves and trees, brings to the scene a forest of the future with flowers and plants that do not respect the visual dynamics that we got used to glimpsing. Letícia Cotrim presents us with a series of photographs of the proceling birds flight, endangered species, flying experts, which when spotted in a gang, are known for announcing storms. The Avatar of Acacia Velata is a cyber body, attached to the limits of technology that supports it. The contours of what would be a human being are camouflaged and his digital matter does not fit himself and, therefore, tries to overflow, facing the limits of an ATM that holds the character in immateriality.
Multotopias is an exhibition that seeks in the symphony of life a way of escaping the dystopia that seems to be living. Together are paintings, sculptures, facilities, videos and photographs that sound family members for their common characteristics, but are as unknown as tomorrow. The show is anchored in the utopia of trying to capture the space between the subjectivity of control and the freedom of chaos, in the only certainty that there is nothing more capable than nature to occupy this place.
